New to our Brokerage listings is this expectional Plymouth Pilot 24. Currently afloat at Yacht Haven Marina and recently featured in the ‘Sea Angler’ magazine. An absolute credit to her owners.
Rare opportunity to own this stunning Plymouth Pilot 24 weekender, offering a larger cabin and wheelhouse. With the proven sea keeping of the Plymouth Pilot hull, Polaris has a great deal to offer her owner.
Available on Brokerage, is the exceptional Polaris. Originally commissioned in 2002 the current owners purchased her 3 years ago and she has since undergone numerous modifications and superb maintenance. She has been a labour of love. The condition and presentation of the vessel is testimony to the great skill in which she has been restored.
Polaris is 24ft long with a substantial 9ft 2” beam and draws 2ft 8”. Powered by a 43hp Beta Marine engine, maintained locally, serviced 2018 at 587 hours. The engine produces 2,800 rpm. Fitted with a 110 litre diesel tank, and she carries a 20 litre reserve tank. The standard fit is 80 litres. The extended fuel capacity thus giving a range of 120nm at 5 Knots.
With a cruising speed in the region of 6.5 knts to 7knts, this is typical speeds for a displacement boat of this size.
Coded for carrying up to eight persons, Cat C.
Plymouth Pilots are very economical to run, renowned for their seaworthiness, stability and reliability. Polaris has often been used by her owners as a weekender, with many extended trips to Fowey, Falmouth, Salcombe and Dartmouth.
Polaris being rather top-of-the-range cruiser version of the 24ft Plymouth Pilot really offers greatly.
Stepping onboard personally I was amazed by her condition, Polaris is immaculate.
The large deck space offers a great platform for fishing, she’ll fish up to 4 in comfort. She has excellent inboard freeboard, which enhances the feeling of overall security. The deck space is often used by her current owners for entertaining, with various seating arrangements and Cockpit table. A really comfortable space to relax and enjoy. Moving around the deck I found multiple stowage lockers which the owners have truly made work and function accordingly.
One of the features added by the current owners is an Aft gantry. The primary function of this is that it includes a small bracket on to which the owner can attach a rescue harness which he carries in case anyone should fall overboard.
Cockpit canvas, which remains in pristine condition provides additional shelter under cover. All of which can be removed with ease and designed to fit in to the rear lockers for stowage whilst not in use. Tiller steering and trolling valve for use at very slow speeds. The vessel also comes with a Mercury Four stoke auxiliary 6hp outboard mounted on the rear bracket, also serviced annually.
The engine bay is fitted with an automatic fire extinguisher plus fire hatch access to allow for insertion of a fire extinguisher without lifting the engine bay hatch. Gas bottle locker, all recently serviced. Mid ship cleats and Bow cleats have all been over spec’d onboard.
Stepping in to the wheelhouse, I was pleased to see a wide range of necessary navigation electronics onboard. To include a Garmin 551 chart plotter, Gamin Fishfinder 160, Brand New AIS fitted 2017, icom VHF with DSC new 2016.
To port is a custom designed Chart table incorporated into the galley area by the current owner, who has a love of doing things the traditional way with a paper chart, dividers and a pair of parallel rulers in conjunction with a compass.
The galley area, revealed by removing the chart table top which stows neatly upright and securely when not in use offers a 2 burner Hob Premier range fitted new 2015 with gas sensor alarms onboard. Fire blanket and extinguishers located within the wheelhouse with 2 additional extinguishers in the forward cabin. Hot and cold water system. A small fridge can be located under the Helm seat. Again the owner has made use of all stowage areas and ingenious modifications really make it work.
Located in the wheelhouse is a full flare box including White anti collision flares.
Stepping down in to the forward cabin I was greeted by a light and airy space, complimented by the upgraded LED lighting, with additional reading lights both in red and white. 2 berths at an extensive 6ft 8” offering great accommodation onboard. All new Headlinings 2015, which remain in pristine condition. Plentiful stowage under the berths and under step. Beautifully mounted are both a Barometer & tide clock. Carbon monoxide alarm fitted 2018.
The owner has installed several 240v sockets with USB ports, new batteries fitted 2016 charging unit from shore power.
Polaris, the full extent of her specification and attention to detail really needs to be viewed in person.
For now here’s a final few words from the owner, “ last year we bought her all the way back from Fowey to Plymouth in a force 6 complete with thunder and lightning, it took us five hours to complete the 22-mile run. It was hell of a trip, but she really did inspire great confidence and perform incredibly well, even under such adverse conditions. After that trip I’d be confident in her seakeeping qualities should I ever get caught out in a force 8”
As featured in Sea Angler magazine, the final words were that Polaris was a comfortable boat, beautifully appointed and an absolute delight to be aboard.
